MEDIA ADVISORY #1 at 2 p.m.

Work is underway to repair an 8-inch natural gas pipeline that was damaged by third-party construction equipment (not related to Peoples Gas) the morning of Nov. 19. Peoples Gas expects final repairs to take time.

Peoples Gas’ priority is safety. There are currently no public safety or environmental concerns. Peoples Gas has been coordinating with Tampa Fire Rescue and Tampa Police to include managing traffic flow and keeping the incident scene secure.

Media should not attempt to enter the secured worksite. Drones should not be flown in the area.

Additional incident details:

    • By 12:15 p.m. we completed initial assessments and repairs to secure the scene. Long-term permanent repairs will be underway this afternoon.
    • As a result of the impact by the construction equipment, an 8-inch distribution pipeline was damaged. The pipeline delivers natural gas to approximately 700 customers, most of which are currently being served through back-up compressed natural gas supply.
    • Peoples Gas has not observed pipeline pressure drops related to this incident. Peoples Gas continues to actively monitor system pressures and atmospheric gas levels in the area.
    • The repair plan may include shutting off gas supply, repairing the damaged area and turning the gas supply back on. More information about the process to restore natural gas service can be found at Natural Gas Outages.
    • Updates about the incident, possible customer outages and repairs will be posted to the company’s X page.
