Scott Balfour, chair of Peoples Gas and Tampa Electric, is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Sprowls to the boards of directors of both Peoples Gas and Tampa Electric, effective April 1.
Sprowls is Of Counsel for Buchanan Ingersoll and Rooney PA law firm. He spent eight years in the Florida House of Representatives, beginning in 2014, and served as speaker of the Florida House from 2020 to 2022. He has robust experience in the legal field, including as a gang and homicide prosecutor in Florida’s Sixth Judicial Circuit. Chris serves as chairman of the advisory board for the University of Florida’s Lastinger Center for Learning, as well as a director for Flagship Bank. He has a Bachelor of Arts from University of South Florida, and a Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law.

Peoples Gas System, Florida’s largest natural gas distribution utility, serves nearly 470,000 customers across Florida. Tampa Electric, one of the state's largest investor-owned electric utilities, serves about 830,000 customers in West Central Florida. The companies are subsidiaries of Emera Inc., a geographically diverse energy and services company headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
