Tampa Electric and TECO Peoples Gas have named Mike Sewell as their new director of Federal Affairs.
Sewell will provide federal-level support and advocacy of Tampa Electric’s, Peoples Gas’ and New Mexico Gas Co.’s policy matters, along with Emera Inc.’s interests.
Sewell is a seasoned professional in the utility industry with an extensive knowledge of federal affairs. He comes to TECO from Duke Energy, and its predecessor, Progress Energy, where he managed federal affairs for nearly two decades. He started his career working for U.S. Rep. Clay Shaw as legislative director. He has a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Virginia.
Sewell started his new role June 29; he is based in Washington, D.C.
Tampa Electric, one of Florida’s largest investor-owned electric utilities, serves about 780,000 customers in West Central Florida. Peoples Gas System, Florida’s largest natural gas distribution utility, serves more than 400,000 customers across Florida. They are subsidiaries of Emera Inc., a geographically diverse energy and services company headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
