TECO Peoples Gas customers to see lower bills thanks to tax reform

TECO Peoples Gas will reduce customer bills and collect $11.6 million less annually, thanks to changes in federal tax law.

Today, the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) unanimously approved the bill reduction, which takes effect Jan. 1. Customers will see a 5 percent reduction in the customer charge and in the distribution charge. For the average residential customer, who uses 20 therms of natural gas per month, those reductions could total approximately $1.00.

This customer benefit is due to changes made to the federal tax law in late 2017.

The change was supported by the Office of Public Counsel and the Florida Industrial Power Users Group.

Peoples Gas System, Florida's largest natural gas distribution utility, serves about 375,000 customers across Florida. Peoples Gas is a subsidiary of Emera Inc., a geographically diverse energy and services company headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
