The People of Peoples Gas: Kelly Knigge

For Kelly, helping our team respond in times of crisis is a year-round job that he takes to heart, and putting people first is a priority for him. He collaborates across the organization, within multiple departments, and with city and county emergency managers during times of crisis, equipping us with the best resources when we need them most.

Kelly's life and career of service to others goes well beyond our team. Sure, he’s the Emergency Management Manager for Peoples Gas, but he’s also a veteran combat medic with the Florida Army National Guard and a volunteer with the Sun City Center Emergency Squad on the ambulance providing emergency services to the community.

It’s safe to say that for Kelly, helping others is in his blood. “It started with my grandfather in World War II,” he says, tracing his dedication to something that was instilled in him but never forced on him.

Kelly’s day-to-day role is preparing teams to respond when an emergency occurs. Throughout the year, he helps assign storm roles, develops response training materials, and builds relationships with emergency management contacts in municipalities around the state.

Utilities serve as a critical infrastructure for communities and are a big part of emergency management. When emergencies occur, Kelly’s job kicks into high gear – working tirelessly until all team members are accounted for, all services are back online, and all our communities are safe.
